The HS5 is the smallest model in Yamaha's HS series — the modern successor to the NS-10, long considered an industry-standard reference monitor. It's built to give an honest, uncolored picture of a mix rather than a flattering one, which is exactly what's needed when decisions about EQ and balance have to translate to other systems. A 5" cone woofer and 1" dome tweeter are driven by a bi-amplified 70W system (45W low frequency, 25W high frequency), and two response controls — ROOM CONTROL and HIGH TRIM — let the HS5 adapt to a small room's acoustics or a desk placed close to a wall, rather than requiring acoustic treatment to sound accurate. Balanced XLR and TRS inputs accept everything from an audio interface to a mixer without adapters.
